Organising a large group of volunteers as a community response team can be a daunting task. We adopted a ‘hyper-local’ approach by breaking down the Borough into its constituent Wards and further down to Zones. This is our blueprint for the Organisation Structure of our COVID-19 Community Response.
Steering Group
Provide governance, direction and to organise central services. 5 members with the following roles: Chair, Service Delivery, Volunteer Liaison, Communications, Governance Risk Compliance & Systems. This group meet daily (often more frequently) via Zoom video calling.
Ward Coordinators
Every electoral ward has a minimum of two coordinators that are responsible for managing volunteers and delivering support services in their ward. Coordinators feed up local issues to the steering group for resolution.
Zone Coordinators
Each ward is broken down into small Zones of typically 30-100 homes and volunteers that live within the zone (ideally) are assigned to support their neighbours. Typically a zone will have 3-10 volunteers and they will have a minimum of two coordinators.
